it s only so long before liam geddes becomes a name you ll start hearing on the worldwide underground stage. having already churned out a number of uncompromisingly deep house tracks over the past couple of years, he comes armed with another exceptional ep on mil - the third release on the new music is love sister label - that further demonstrates his genuine dynamism as a producer. the with closed eyes ep should win this very talented producer the recognition his fresh beat work deserves into the wild gets proceedings underway, a ripping bassline paves out over rattling percussion shakes while oscillating dream like jingles play out during the course of the track. chopped vocal samples are introduced and tease against the shuffling drums which elevates the track with real drive and groove. close ya eyes for the journey packs the same layer of heat with its similarly groove-heavy bassline - a staple of geddes well-crafted sound. firmly footed, intermittent chimes seep into the track and are complemented by siren-like chords which grow truer in presence, until a hypnotic vocal snippet fulfils the deep terrains of the track. a saint is a tumultuous techno-fused roller with it s rip-roaring bassline and percussive loops which rhythmically swing out over shuddering pads, sustained chords and a cut up female vocal, brining a twist of colour to the arrangements of the track. there s a keen sense of tension and release, elevating this above your average and confirms geddes does depth and darkness with real conviction. broke will surely prove a high point for any decent dj set, and sounds like a cut you d expect from someone like delano smith. strings faintly play out over looped key chimes and a funk-like riff, while ticking hi-hats and a careful use of vocal sample gives the track extra heat, each element powered by the rumbling bassline.

one of las smartest young voices says the la times…which the artist suspects, may just be a covert way of saying la is dumb. “open” mike eagle wouldnt terribly mind, being born and raised in chicago where the painful winters and his uppity grandparents kept him inside as a youth. he spent his formative years watching alternative music happen on mtv and hoping to one day be able to audition for the native tongues. as a young adult after graduating with a degree in psychology, he did the next best thing and moved to los angeles, joining the project blowed collective where he made music and toured with busdriver, aceyalone, abstract, nocando, and more. he has also gained notoriety in the world of comedy by being invited by professional funny people (paul f. tompkins, hannibal buress, matt besser/ucb) to rap at their shows. he would like to be raps kurt vonnegut but recognizes that he would first have to create something as iconic as the four-stroke illustration of an anus. he practices by releasing rap albums that delight, entertain, and confuse.

the cover *theme* shimmers orange-brown and is one more reason to welcome the coming autumn. basels superkid benotmane wows us with a deep melodic track whose vocals have us quickly lost in a dream. whether we are floating, eyes-closed, across the dance-floor at an open-air or in a club, something becomes undeniable, serious goosebumps are happening. the two guys from kaiser souzai have presented us with two remixes that ultimately convince through their technoid and pulsing grooves. eskimo is the whittled-down original, reduced to its main components –revealing these with its very own flow.

skylax welcomes f.t.g., known to house music scholars as freddy the groove, and his many friends for our next release in 2014. last year, f.t.g. and his italian partner in crime, marco riff (who also appears on this very record), pressed a very limited run of a single-sided, special throwback tribute to late 80s chicago house music. the track was aptly named ‘tribute ’89’, and it put a more dancefloor oriented twist on a track by a certain originator with the initials r.h. needless to say, it became highly sought-after incredibly quickly and fuel was further added to the fire by the repeated club play by none other than the dj idol ricardo villalobos. luckily for our followers, that original mix appears on this ep with another unreleased mix of the track and 2 originals featuring belfie and alex tea alongside f.t.g.with enough said about ‘tribute ‘89’ itself, the unreleased mix maintains the warehouse vibe with a heavy kick and bouncing bass pattern but takes it to another level with the introduction of rolling vocal cuts and a rather ravey synth line. flipping over the to b-side, we are treated with two tracks by f.t.g. and alex tea, named ‘public enemy’ and ‘bango’, with the former also seeing belfie lend a helping hand in the production. both of these originals round out the record nicely and cement it as another skylax release that is definitely not to be missed

after few nolder, italian fellow lehar aka lorenzo esposito is the second new signing for connaisseur this year. apart from his residency at the cirq club in venice and regular bookings at some of the best clubs and parties in italy and malta, lehar truly is a very talented producer as well. some of you might have heard the free download for lehars remix of kollektiv turmstrasses classic *tristesse* which has caused some attention on him the past weeks and was therefore the perfect precursor for this release. his demo impressed us very much and both titles really hit our taste. and as though this wasn t enough, together with his demo he delivered a remix by his friend and probably hottest producer of the moment: mario basanov, head of the label boso and mostly know under his moniker ten walls.

steve frisco, of serie limitee fame, brings us the latest bundle of hot tracks to hit wax classic in 2014. as the title suggests, steve takes us on a journey through low fidelity sounds and production techniques. think dark, moody, yet crunchy basement house tracks with inspiration taken from all over the u.s and the rest of the house world. it’s a generous offering as well. six whole dusty tunes for those diggers who are looking for something with a bit more range than another record of generic piano laden, house-by-numbers pieces that still seem to be flooding the record store shelves in 2014. the moods do vary from track to track, but they remain very reflective and almost melancholic at points. the title track, ‘adventure in lo-fi’, is the deepest of the lot with filtered chords, echoing claps and a sporadic kick pattern that often clears way for the track’s bass hits. now, compare that to ‘da brooklyn beat’. whilst the former had a distinct sunrise/sunset kind of feel to it, the latter is definitely more of a club affair. skippy snare hits and a strong organ lead the track on, and at the risk of utilizing very overused buzzwords such as ‘raw’ and ‘ruff’, this track, and the rest of the a-side for that matter, certainly captures that essence. stalwart wax classic fans will no doubt be picking this one up to add to their collection. however, i strongly recommend this ep as a jumping in point to the label for any newcomers out there

london/venezuela production duo juan laya & jorge montiel aka los charlys orchestra take influences from salsoul, fania, donna summer, cerrone, herbie hancock and even jamiroquay and blend them with their very unique style of production in order to deliver their latest anthem of neo latin disco. after a few months of experimentation across different sounds los charlys are back into their main arena with an outstanding new single entitle everlasting love. los charlys orchestra were first known by their initial disco/funk period and more recently by their infectious latin/funk sound, which has been buzzing all around the place for the past couple of years. this new single expresses a cross road in between the two periods of lco bringing up a new perspective for the future of this outfit.

step into the rabbit hole and we ll take you on a journey from romania to japan, featuring some of the finest producers from both worlds. first track is from the well known duo livio & roby, who also deliverd a stunning remix on our second release. they share the romanian side with cally, who needs little introduction because of his beatiful releases on fear of flying, neostrictly or broquade. on the flip side we have yudai tamura, a very talented japanese newcomer and yoshitaca, already a veteran dj and producer in his home country.

accompany the reissue of woo s into the heart of love, emotional rescue is releasing a limited 7inch featuring songs not included on the vinyl pressing, plus a previously unreleased version of the beautiful title song, which only appeared in later form on their cd only, la luna album. with the original into the heart of love album only appearing as a 60 minute cassette-only release, several of the albums songs could not make the first time vinyl issue from emotional rescue. therefore, this limited edition 7inch includes two of those ommited songs. the wistful english folk duet between mark ives and sue amor on make me tea and it s sibling on the album, a little long way. possibly woo s most straight forward folk song, make me tea is as the title imagines a very particular english poem. recording as a duet between two late night lovers, awaking from post-love making slumber to find peace and with it, a nice, perfect cup of tea. however, it is the inclusion of the unreleased version of the title song, magic in the dark that is worth the admission price alone. taken from the cd only album, la luna, the original s short and gentle story of late night love is presented here in it s alternate demo form. a different vantage point is shown in revelation and then exhaltation. the sadder start expands in to a beautiful and wonderus folk celebration. mark s vocals and guitar are later joined by gentle rhythmic percussion from brother clive, before clarinets duet to a yearning finale. woo once again showing their unique mix of folk and new age electronics. a one off to cherish.

to accompany the release of especial s compilation mix cd, -eleccio- - offering of a snapshot of the first 9 eps on the label - a limited edition sampler ep is being released featuring 4 unreleased remixes from the label s roster to date. ever since the first white labels appeared at the end of summer 2013, emotional especial has had a busy release schedule, putting out music that are a slightly warped take on club music. mixing the influences of dub, electro, disco, proto-house, house and techno, a feeling, a sound, a vibe has appeared without any preordained plan. with the release of ees10cd - a dj meets studio compilation mix created by label mainstay and handyman, jamie paton - to mark the end of first series of the label, it was decided to included a couple of specal unreleased remixes to add a bit of new with the old in the mix. to that end this limited edition vinyl sampler was created to include the two remixes, plus the inclusion of another two gems that simply needed to see the light of day. first is the alternative -member- remix of inhalt by black merlin - a strings meets leather bar club-dub-out that takes things deeper and darker than before. this is followed by jamie delivering his own take of khidja s massive mustafa, with a warped, swamped out dub. next is another mix from cage & aviary of their pals, blancemange. brooding low-slung rerub dub anyone? finally there is a very special remix by khidja of the ganges orchestra. reissued on emotional rescue in 2013, this special remix takes the vocal mantra of the original and creates a balearic-raga tale that perfectly rounds off especial to date.

kasset is very proud to announce the first release, andré and leslie - stress. it is a re-issue of a track originally released in 1979 on the cusp of the belgium new wave explosion, crossing the disco and wave wonderfully. be bloody quick!

make no mistake, for vault series 15 the doors have been flung open to welcome a new act to the fold. theres very little known about mistake made. no records or releases exist to date, but they have impressed vault chief subjected enough to have them join the sequestered berlin-based crew. and in sublime compliance with the vault series creed, this debut effort from the shadowy outfit presents yet another set of functioning and frill-free dancefloor material, complete with a rusted-through hue of its own. on the a-side >wrist< jumps straight in with marching intent, complete with fidgety hat work thats both anxious and infectious. then on the flip, >ricochet< opens with field recordings tossed into a stormy concoction of ticks, hats and fuzzy atmospherics, teamed up here with one of those basslines that will keep you glued to the floor. >indec< then concludes in signature vault series style an ominous, growling number rattled with alarm bells and screeching, clangorous detail. its one of those monstrous slow-burners that leaves you wounded yet longing for more. all in all, a rounded first release from a new techno tour de force. this isnt the last we will be hearing from mistake made.

david k is the parisian-turned-berliner producer who has been a prominent artist within the underground house scene since the late 90s, having first joined forces with dan ghenacia of apollonia when releasing his bestseller * boul de nerf* on freak n chic. a fruitful career in production led to music on labels like cocoon, visionquest, supplement facts and bpitch control, while his new album * out of range * is just about to drop. ten years in the making and signed to tiefschwarzs souvenir, david proves his music is still as relevant today as ever. as one of the main artists on freak n chic, david k seemed a natural fit for apollonia to approach...* david is an old friend and talented produced who we have known from the beginning back in paris. of course we wanted to see what he could do for the new label, as you know by now we apollonia are always referring back to our roots. a 2-track package, * middle-aged romance* is characterised by its bell melody and hard-hitting bassline, an electric story moving between ethereal wonder and an intense workout. * drop the beat* perfectly demonstrates the classic chicago house style david k and apollonia first enjoyed together all those years ago, but adding a very modern, textured touch. coming 2014, apollonia invite premiesku to the label – the combination of livio & roby and their pal george g – and also the newest addition to the lola ed roster.

very welcome reissue of the 12 inch vinyl version of the superb *onda* from brazilian soul legend cassiano. one of the founding fathers of the scene, a contemporary of and collaborator with people such as tim maia, hyldon, etc., cassiano only released a handful of lps and singles but the quality made up for the quantity and this 1977 polydor 12- features two of his best moments. side as *onda* is a lilting sun-drenched slice of pure soul heaven with a grooving b-line and sweet vocals that at nearly 8 minutes is still not enough - a truly captivating mellow masterpiece that you want to last forever... the flip side is no less accomplished - an upfront bass-heavy funk jam guaranteed to whip the dancefloor into a frenzy. essential!
